My Beloved Mare
I had a beloved mare, I named her Princess
No other like her existed for miles around
On her back, I pulled off more than a few feats
That spirited mare was truly a sight to behold!
I treated my mare with utmost care
If a herd broke loose, I’d gather them with flair
Crossed the Pardo River without a hint of fear
That spirited mare, quick by nature, oh dear!
One day disaster struck at the dam’s edge
I fell into a mess, and my mare got wedged
She tried to rise, but she lacked the strength
And broke both her legs, my Princess met her end
I grabbed my gun, aimed it with steady hands
The mare whinnied as if to make a stand
I saw a tear fall from my Princess's eye
I shot her twice, then I cried, oh why?
I dug a grave, buried my treasure deep
Made a cross from wood, lit four candles to keep
On the cross, I wrote a sign, clear as day
I killed her to spare her from suffering, my dear Princess!
