El Bahiano

SOLEDAD SOLEDAD

The Bahiano

Another sad story
Like so many I've heard
Of an impossible love
From a failed romance

They say that there it was just another day
On Ipanema Beach
There was a doctor of higher rank
With his daughter Lorena

Sitting in a bar and waiting for dad
Lorena was listening to a piano
The pianist smiled and Lorena fell
For that dark-haired Bahian

Dreamy poet, without direction, without crusaders
But she wouldn't leave his side

That Bahian of earth and sun
I teach him what love is
That Bahiano was more than heaven
He was more than a God

The force that seized them was the one that later betrayed them
Oh! It's still in the air
To Lorena crying for love
For that Bahian

Of course the father cried out loud
Daughter, what will your mother and others say?
That wretch is not in your category
And it doesn't fit in our rich society

Forget about Bahiano, I will never allow it
And I'm going to take you far away so you won't see him again

With his soul in pain
And Lorena was inconsolable
When he reached the top of Corcovado
I can't live without the love of my Bahian
And so he opened his wings and flew

That Bahian of earth and sun
I teach him what love is
That Bahiano was more than heaven
He was more than a God

The force that seized them was the one that later betrayed them
Oh! It's still in the air
To Lorena crying for love
For that Bahian

That Bahian of earth and sun
I teach him what love is
That Bahiano was more than heaven
He was more than a God

The force that seized them was the one that later betrayed them
Oh! It's still in the air
To Lorena crying for love
For that Bahian
