El Regalon de Mi Tata (Milonga)

One summer night
Clear as a tero egg
I rode galloping on my overo
Leading the ruano
It was a skilled horse
To herd cattle together
And that's when it started to graze
With the cool breeze and neighing
To me, it seemed to be singing
Eager to arrive

I went monthly to Las Mostazas
In the Carmen de las Flores
Like going to Dolores
Just a few leagues away
I returned to the houses
Sad, alone, and worn out
Feeling somewhat cowardly
Crossing those valleys
And falling more at times
Than frozen pumpkin leaves

I arrived in General Belgrano
When two trains passed by
At the same time some sandflies
I scared away with my hand
That's when the ruano sat down
And got stuck
The frightened horse
Threw me off and ran off
He faced the level crossing
And the train finished him off

Damn! The things I went through
On that fierce night
I never ran a race
Where I looked so bad
I almost had a foot race
When the foreman fired me
And to make it worse, he threw me out!
The train comes and kills him
My grandpa's favorite
That he entrusted to me so much!
