Burrerita
Luis Alberto del Parana
Little Donkey Girl
The dawn hasn't even broken
When you start your journey
And head to the market
To carry your goods
You don't mind the rain
Or care if it's freezing
Only pain can await you
From a hard life
The hardships have toughened you
Day by day in your life
They've filled you with courage
Your endless nights
And they've given you the basics
Lessons in patience
So that in misfortune
You stay strong
And trotting little donkey girl
From your humble home
Through hills and prairies
A hundred paths you roam
With your bags well filled
With oranges and cassava
You walk the streets of Asunción
Distributing your goods
For the daily bread
You walk mile after mile
On the back of your little donkey
Who you treat like family
As you cross the streets
With each trot you leave behind
A piece of your life
Hardworking little girl
Your days are so the same
You don't have a Sunday
Of pleasures or joys
In quiet moments
Little Paraguayan donkey girl
In my verses, I recognize you
And I embrace you in my stanzas
With burning love
And trotting little donkey girl
From your humble home
Through hills and prairies
A hundred paths you roam
With your bags well filled
With oranges and cassava
You walk the streets of Asunción
Distributing your goods
And trotting little donkey girl
And trotting little donkey girl
And trotting little donkey girl
