Kairo Bei Nacht
Udo Jürgens
Cairo At Night
Cairo at night
All streets are full of strange sounds
Cairo at night
And a colorful crowd carried us
Almost like a dream
Past jugglers and magicians
Cairo at night
And the merchants praised their jewelry
Glass beads
And dresses made of painted silk
And everywhere there was life, songs and cries
Cairo at night
And you wore the light in your hair
Cairo at night
And we drank tea in the bazaars
But soon after
The morning call sounded from the mosque
Cairo at night
I still see in my mind
Cairo at night
And I see the stars as they sank
Wordless and silent
Out in the vastness of Giza
Cairo at night
And we said so much to each other through silence
The Moon was red
A tree held him in its branches
And I held you
Like a treasure close to me
Cairo at night
And you wore the light in your hair
Cairo at night
And we drank tea in the bazaars
But soon after
The morning call sounded from the mosque
(Cairo at night)
(Cairo at night)
Cairo at night
And I long for the bazaars
Is the time when we were happy together here
Unspeakably far
I still love this city and you today
