Die Stadt In Der Sonne
Udo Jürgens
The City In The Sun
On a hill under old pine trees
Camped those who had fled the city
They looked down on houses and towers
And did not warn against going down into the valley
You stranger come to us in difficult times
The black smoke there
Doesn't mean anything good
The city in the Sun covers its face
She paints the mosque black with soot
The city in the Sun doesn't understand it yet
That their children no longer understand each other
In our houses, a girl told me
Grenades punched large holes in the walls
And barbed wire divides the old market square
The soldiers build shelters in cellars
Children are already playing with wooden guns
They are taught early on to hate and destroy
The city in the Sun covers its face
She paints the mosque black with soot
The city in the Sun doesn't understand it yet
That their children no longer understand each other
People wave flags and die for their faith
Neighbors suddenly fight on different sides
And everyone talks about freedom being worth it
That the city they are fighting over is destroyed
Those on the hills look on in horror
And hope to rebuild soon
The city in the Sun covers its face
She paints the mosque black with soot
The city in the Sun doesn't understand it yet
That their children no longer understand each other
