Der gekaufte Drachen
Udo Jürgens
The Purchased Kite
A pebble path led me to the house
The light fell on English lawns
I stood on a silk carpet in the portal
In front of paintings and valuable vases
Then the owner proudly showed the property
What you see belongs to my little one
This house, this factory, only for him, I do this
That's what I live for, I only have one
While he was talking with the glass in his hand
Did no one see the little one standing in the doorway
When he started talking, it was suddenly very quiet
Because he said: Dad, I don't know if I want that
I want to build a kite with you
Build a kite with you
You never have time for that
I want to build a kite with you
Build a kite with you
Because a purchased dragon
Doesn't fly even half as far
The pebble path still leads to the house
The parties there have long since died down
The man sits in front of me slightly bent over and grey
And tells me quietly about his boy
He lives his life somewhere in the city today
Everything turned out completely differently
He wrote to me that he is not coming home
I think I'll sell everything
While he was talking with little hope in his eyes
My thoughts go back to the little one
He said very little at that time but still so much
With the words: Dad, I don't know if I want that
I want to build a kite with you
Build a kite with you
You never have time for that
I want to build a kite with you
Build a kite with you
Because a purchased dragon
Doesn't fly even half as far
Well, well, well, well, well, well
I want to build a kite with you
Well, well, well, well, well, well
