Casa do Vovô
João Carlos e Maurício
Grandpa's House
Every afternoon I played
With my cousin Zezinho
Corn husks turned into cows
We made some cool little cars
Below where we played
There was a dirt road
Further down there was a lake
And grandpa's house
The house was a witness
To a well-lived time
My grandpa was a strong
And fearless man, oh man
We took great pride
In our old friend
And the stories he told
I always carry with me
When he was a kid
He played around there too
Building his own toys
By the dirt road
His inseparable friend
Was the boss's son
A country childhood
Full of memories, oh man
One random afternoon
They were just playing
When a bull cart
Was passing by
And the boss's son
Didn’t think at all
Jumped on the load
But lost control
Fell off the other side
Slipped down the slope
Was sliding to the lake
In an instant he sank, oh man
Back at the farmhouse
Seeing it all, upset
The boss was already there
Screaming in despair
He called for his son
Who was drowning there
And in a quick reflex
Without thinking of his fate
That brave boy
Using his strong arm
Heroically saved his friend
From the cold grip of death, oh man
When he saw his son alive
The father said to the boy
With this noble act
You change your destiny
You won’t be a worker
I’ll give you protection
You’ll be my son
And my son will be your brother
I’ll build a house
To always shelter you
And when we look at it
On that day I’ll remember, oh man
And after a long time
Since this story passed
I remember and miss
My dear grandpa
He went to live with God
Left us his joy
When I see this house
I know the hero lived here
How many times I played
In the lake and on the dirt road
These are memories of a past
That time hasn’t erased, oh man
