La Ciudad

The city is growing
with those arriving from the countryside,
some fleeing from the cold,
others fleeing from the tears.

On the corner of that street
the city is growing,
four families arrived
and twelve hungry children.

They bring shadows for the roof
and furniture on their backs,
they bring water in bottles
and children in their arms.

They bring doors and windows
in their ragged suitcases,
they bring complete walls
amidst pains and rags.
