Les Madeleines
Françoise Hardy
The Cupcakes
When he goes to get his Madeleine
It already smells of milk, caramel
But if he takes the bladders for lanterns
He will be bled very quickly from all four veins
Gently
Kindly
Like a child
Innocent
Does he drink orange juice?
Or does he smoke mixtures?
Who make him see the sea
In the middle of the desert?
When he goes to cherish his Madeleine
When I see him running out of breath
Open your charming arms to the villain
Who will break his porcelain teeth
Nose in the wind
Dreaming
Like a child
Innocent
Fifteen feet off the ground
He wears a halo
Wasps not at all crazy
Which he finds on sale
When he goes to get his Madeleine
I start to cry
Like a Madeleine
He doesn't really know the schemes
Which, however, date from before
Methuselah
And he goes to bite into his Madeleine
Since he believes it to be golden, sweetened with honey
And people laugh at him like whales, di-da
But don't you take all this too personal, d-di-di-di
Nose in the wind
Dreaming
Like a child
Innocent
Head in the clouds
He goes on trips
Where all the swamps
Are transparent
