Cuando Agosto Era 21
Fernando Ubiergo
When August Was 21
She hid in the pillars
Of the old hallways
To hide the child
That was soon to arrive
It was hard to conceal
In a white apron
The extra three months
And she left school
With a C in her report card
And in her belly a kite
That soon would want to fly
And she went out to walk
And she went out to ask
Through the streets, with no end
And she went to a priest
Who told her it was a sin
And soon a lawyer
Talked to her about the law
And it was the science teacher
Who spoke of the recklessness
Of today’s youth
Of today’s youth
Those who judge
Haven't felt
Love, pain
And in the belly
Some heartbeats
And they get tangled in prejudices
And love got stuck
In just a few heartbeats
And they talked to her about pills
And they talked to her about remedies
Of an old lady
Who does the job well
There was no shortage of a good friend
That friend in quotes
Who gave her the address
And she left from school
On a cold morning
When the old bell
Hadn't yet chimed
While the science teacher
Talked about the recklessness
Of today’s youth
When August was 21
They found her face up
With a lost gaze
And her white apron
And in her school bag
A heart drawn
That said you and me
That said you and me
Those who judge
Haven't felt
Love, pain
And in the belly
Some heartbeats
And they get tangled in prejudices
And love
