When everyone’s out in the streets
celebrating the end of the year
and shouting happy holidays.
And you see that the vibe that fills the city
isn’t the same for everyone
and that some folks can’t celebrate.
Don’t wait for a miracle from the sky, a saving angel,
and expect them to give you
what you’ve always been missing.
You gotta learn to get
what you need to live,
a love, a dog, a place to call home,
do all this for yourself.
You have to forget those old Christmases
when things went wrong
when you couldn’t forget her.
Think again
about all the injustices,
kids born in the dark, and men who die at dawn.
And if you ever feel like everything’s going wrong,
don’t hang your head, don’t lose hope,
you can start over again.
