Prohibido prohibir
Eladia Blázquez
Forbidden to Forbid
You can't forbid, nor can you deny
The right to live, the reason to dream
You can't forbid, believing or creating
Nor exclude the earth, nor hide the moon
You can't forbid, not a bit of love
Nor can you dodge that the flower will bloom
Nor the soul's vibration, nor the heartbeat's thrum
Nor life in its stride... You can't forbid
You can't forbid, the choice to think
Nor can you stop, the storm at sea
You can't forbid, an inner flight
A sparrow when it leaves, seeking a better sky
You can't forbid, the vital urge
Nor a drop of honey, nor a grain of salt
Nor the endless desire, nor the wish without end
To laugh, to cry, you can't forbid
You can't forbid, the iridescent hue
Of the evening as it dies, at sunset's view
You can't forbid, the urge to sing
Nor the duty to say what shouldn't be silenced
Only a man unable to understand, to feel
Has managed, in the end, to forbid his own greatness
And he denies the flavor and the simple truth
Of living in love and in total freedom
If I had the power to decide
I would enact a law
It's forbidden to forbid!
