Où Est La Ville?
Jane Birkin
Where Is The City?
You advance at the edge of the world
Just one step would be enough to throw me out
I eat something disgusting
The meat I chew tastes like my body
Everywhere, everything is just a queue
And near the cash registers where the girls without complexion
Bits of the city flow
Flesh
Our bellies are full
Where is the city
And her big closed eyes
Its heart is liquefying
And its outskirts
Its floors
What will happen
If we lose the line
Where will we fall
Where will we fall
This man I kiss
Whose tongue tastes like the city
The one I knew in him
I recognize the long streets
The arteries
Insidious detours
That make us search before we are lost
I recognize all of that
And I feel in his arms
That the stone
Is bare
Where is the city
And her big closed eyes
His heart is liquefies
And its outskirts
Its floors
What will happen?
If we lose the city?
Where will we fall?
Where will we fall?
Like a car drives by?
I'm willing to roam the streets for days
I'll find her every time
She's hidden in a corner
Or no doubt she's waiting for things to settle down
For people to get tired
For her to be able to identify
For her to be able to touch
Her mouth
And her big closed eyes
We ate the rest
We devoured the city
Even you, my darling
Who is so difficult
You got up at night
To devour the city
To devour the city
