For What I Gained
I had to go through it all to really learn
That when you have everything inside, there’s nothing left to burn
If I could sum it all up in a sunset's glow
I’d capture my whole life on a simple piece of paper, you know
Give me a stab to write a song
'Cause it always flows better when the pain is strong
I live for emotions, and that’s not a problem for me
I’m grateful for making myself a legacy
In a cloud of smoke, I made a wish
And that cloud rose up, reaching for the bliss
Because of that singing cloud, I didn’t stop
And today I’m thankful for everything I’ve got
Lover of the little details, I see
The fire dancing in your soul, no need to underline it, you see
The reflection in your eyes is damp and bright
It’s clear there’s a lot of hope stored up tight
Check my pockets, they’re worth nothing at all
Look inside me, you’ll find a soul standing tall
Hiding something that’s worth my weight in gold
It was sent from the holy mountain, and it stopped my tears from being bold
Through the gaze of an elder, the respect of a brother
For understanding that just being born is winning, no other
'Cause we meditate and rise above
Because what we speak is true, filled with love
From singing so much, I’ve healed from the fright
And I feel like I rise up from the fallen, taking flight
Wrapped in an invisible cloak, covered in poems
For every piece of poetry, a symbol of my home
Put the microphone in front of me
And I forget the crowd, except for the one who gave me this gift, you see
To him, I owe everything that I am
I can’t imagine the day he says, "Come with me," and I’ll scram
In the meantime, I’m far away
Thinking if I can hold out this long in Babylon, come what may
Fighting, I won’t let myself fall
Rastafari has taught me everything, after all
And if I’ve learned more, it’s 'cause I’ve had to lose
If the lesson of the road is to strengthen, I’ll choose
So welcome whatever’s left to explore
