A Minha História

One day some words came to my mind
I put them on paper
And I saw that those words
Were a poem

A poem that spoke exactly
Who I am
Exactly how I think
Exactly how I want
You to know me

When I was born
God gave me a sublime mission
To speak what people feel
About matters of the heart

He made me a friend of rhymes
Of nights, of early mornings
He gave me the gift of writing
And this blessed voice

He gave me the love for people
And I am submissive to this love
Because man is made of dreams
Ideals and commitments

I am a poet of simple things
For life has taught me
I have spoken of land, bushes
Of great kiskadee, of hummingbird

I have told many stories
Everyday mundane
I am a countryman, I am natural
River flowing naturally

There are people who don't like it
Speak ill of what they haven't seen
But those who criticize what I sing
Huh, don't know Brazil
