Beira-Mar
Zé Ramalho
Seashore
I understand the night as an ocean
That bathes the world of the Sun in shadows
Aurora fighting for a glow
In vibrant colors and sovereign air
An eye that sees never deceives
During the moment that I will contemplate
Beyond, far beyond where I want to go
As night falls I throw myself into the world
Beyond the edge of the deep valley
That always starts at the seaside
It's by the sea
Look, inside the waters there are pictures and dreams
And things that dream of the world of the living
There are miraculous fish, harmful insects
Open landscapes, terrifying deserts
Tiresome leagues, sad paths
That make man disillusioned
There are fish that fight to save themselves
Of those who hunt in rough seas
And others who devour with astonishing genius
The lives that fall on the seashore
It's by the sea
(Sundays!)
Beyond, far beyond where I want to go
As night falls I throw myself into the world
Beyond the edge of the deep valley
That always starts at the seaside
It's by the sea
And until death I feel coming
I continue singing, kissing the space
In addition to the hair I untangle
I call upon the waters to come flooding
People and things that are dragged along
You can now wash my thoughts
In the winged fish I want to fly
Get out of the ocean with a polluted complexion
Singing a gallop closing the wound
That only heals at the seaside
It's by the sea
By the sea
By the sea (hey, ox, hey!)
By the sea
It's by the sea (tchê!)
