Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here to sing
About a beautiful fortress
With chalkboard towers
Walls of chalk and stars

And if I dance refalosa
In the schoolyard
My handkerchief will fly
Like a Florida flag
And in my fortress there will be
An everlasting spring

My soldiers are little ones
With black, green, and blue eyes
They spend their lives singing
Dreaming of seas and clouds

They build ships and planes
That don’t go off to war
They dream of growing up fast
Going back and forth across the land
