La Zamba Del Riego

Quilapayún Quilapayún

The Irrigation Zamba

Through the Guaymallén
The water spirit goes
Carrying a flower
Of clay and sun
That will awaken in the irrigation
The vegetal voice
Of the Huarpe who is
Asleep in his mineral peace.

Your flow goes
Through the laborer's valley
And at dawn
One hears the suffering
The sorrow of the foreign furrow
Summer and rigor
From sunrise to sunset
The shadow of the grape harvester.

Golden zamba of irrigation,
The water will sing to you
When it walks in the voice
Of the singing wine
The harvest of my town
And a rumor rises
Of irrigation ditch and song
Along the agricultural path of the sun.

Solar irrigator
Tune of the canebrake
The rural moon
Has seen you watering
The dream of my grandparents
And then singing
With the irrigator
The hard-earned wine of the laborer.

Founding canal
One day you will descend
Bringing in your voice
Of mint and lemon verbena
Tunes of new wine
And then you will leave
With me to sing
Buds of love and peace.
