Utopia
Padre Zezinho
Utopia
From all the things
From my childhood days
I keep alive in my memory
The warmth of my home
At the end of the day
When everything calmed down
The family gathered
On the porch, chatting
My parents had
Neither school nor money
Every day, all year long
They worked non-stop
We lacked everything
But we didn’t even care
What mattered was there
Your smile and your gaze
I, so many times
Saw my dad come home tired
But that was sacred
One by one he would hug us
And he would ask
Who had been mischief-making
And mom would defend us
And slowly everything would settle down
The sun was setting
Someone brought a guitar
Everyone then wanted
To see dad sing with us
Out of tune, a bit hoarse and tired voice
He sang a thousand tunes
His gaze on the setting sun
Time has flown
Today I see the wonder
Of having a family
When so many don’t have one
Now they talk about separation and divorce
Love has turned into a contract
A commitment of no one
And there are so many kids
Who much more than a palace
Would love a hug
And the affection between their parents
If parents loved
Divorce wouldn’t come
They call it utopia
I call it peace
