News is coming from Maranhão.
It didn't come on the radio, in the newspaper, or on TV.
It came in the wind blowing on the coast
from Fortaleza, Recife, and Natal.
The good news was heard in Belém, Manaus,
João Pessoa, Teresina, and Aracaju
and from the north it descended to Central Brazil
It reached Minas, already hit the south!

Here lives a people who deserve more respect!
You know, beautiful is the people as is all love.
Here lives a people who are sea and river,
And their destiny is to come together one day.
The most beautiful song will always be the most sincere.
You know, everything that is beautiful will always be astonishing.
Here lives a people who cultivate quality,
To be wiser than those who want to govern!

The news is that Brazil is not just the coast!
It is much more, much more than any southern zone.
There are good people spread throughout this Brazil,
who will make this place a good country!
