Galopera
Mauricio Cardozo Ocampo
Galopera
In a neighborhood in Asunción
People come, people go
The drum is calling now
The galopa's about to start
February third has arrived
The boss, Mr. San Blas
He spices up the show
The Trinidad Band
Underneath the canopy
The circle's all set up
And out come the dancers
The galopa to dance
Sporting the Kygua vera
Three dangling earrings
Seven branch rings
And a coral rosary
Galopera
Dance your enchanting dance
Galopera
Move your bare feet
Swaying your waist
In your promise of love
The dark-skinned galopera
Of the indolatina lineage
Wears two flowered braids
And dresses in typói jegua
With her head held high
She carries a native pitcher
Water for the pilgrim
The beautiful mitakuña
And so the show goes on
To the rhythm of the galopa
The cheerful notes ring out
Shrill from the piston
While the buzzing is heard
From the bass drum and cymbals
The trombone moans
And the drum rolls on
Galopera
Keep your enchanting dance
Galopera
I'm your passionate dreamer
Give me a bit of fresh water from your pitcher of love
Give me a bit of fresh water from your pitcher of love
