Another Day Around These Parts
Another day around these parts, another sleepless night
Another fight and scuffle at the bar
One crash and there goes, shattered
Another window through the air
A bum with a bullet in his head
Staring down, he'll never disturb anyone again
And this unbearable smell of rotting flesh
Wherever we go
I was still a young kid when I heard the stories
Such good ones that my father used to tell
About every one of the forty states
That he wasn't allowed through
About when he ran away from California
Straight to the desert, heading to Nashville
And the policemen that hunted him never found out
How he managed to vanish
Another night around this parts, intoxicated by the lights
That illuminate the entrance to the brothels
And on the streets, every kind of dude
In and out of cabarets
That unwavering peace of the desert
Interrupted every night by the sound of cannon fire
With each raised glass, each toast
With each celebration
Another day that begins and another night that comes to an end
And another pile of drunkards to carry out
And as always only four or five
Still manage to walk by themselves
And even the old founder of this city
The one passed out over there
Is proud of knowing that this was
Just another day around these parts
Even the old founder of this city
That one passed out over there
Is proud of knowing that this was
Just another day around these parts
