Luciole, Mon Petit Éphémère

Firefly, My Little Mayfly
My, right in the middle of Paris
I have never seen in my life
Such a beautiful nightfly!
Attracted by the light
Of an old lamppost
It flies and goes around in circles
How beautiful it is! It looks so fragile
It looks like it's hanging by a thread
I would like to know this white night flier
That looks at me sadly
Oh, sorry, Mademoiselle
I feel my mayfly wings a-burning
And don't know what wind pushed me
To suddenly find myself abandoned
In the heart of a city I don't know
It is hard being far from home
Far from friends and far from one's country
It is sad to end one's life
Come on, little mayfly!
My name is Firefly
I will be a friend to you
We're going to visit the earth
We're going to visit Paris
My, right in the middle of Paris
I have never seen in my life
Such a beautiful nightfly!
Attracted by the light
Of an old lamppost
It flies and goes around in circles
I don't know how to thank you
Blinded, I can only whirl around
I beg of you, Firefly, continue
It's so beautiful to watch you dance
For a mayfly, the time to live is short
A small firefly only lives one or two days
The lamppost light has been cut off
Firefly, small mayfly
