Por Quién Doblan Las Campanas
Luis Alberto Posada
For Whom the Bells Toll
When the bells start ringing
No one will know for whom they toll
Everyone asks, who died this morning?
No one knows why so many die every day
As they leave the church, the lifeless body
Shows the sad pain of departure
The organ plays the requiem
Like a final goodbye, a farewell
People rush and gather around
To see who’s wrapped up inside
Then, a horrified shout is heard
What a tragedy! It’s our friend, when did he die?
Oceans of tears flow in torrents
Sadness fills that procession
With cries, the mourning bands get soaked
Of the one who travels towards the eternal
The crowd gathers at the graveyard
To bid a final farewell to the one who leaves
And that goodbye blends with the weeping
That tears apart the heart of the most distant
When the lifeless body lies on the slab
For the unfortunate, there will be no more flowers or prayers
Only old, withered roses remain
And a cross forgotten among the weeds
And a cross forgotten among the weeds
