Amanecer Boricano
Lucecita Benítez
Boricano Dawn
I am the light of the morning
That lights up new paths
That floods the mountains, the country paths
I am the fruit of the future
The seed of tomorrow
Sown in manure
Pure from my Borincan land
I am a fisherman of dreams
I'm looking for a sea of foam
Of shells and sand
Of sirens and mist
Of stars and horizons
My fortune is being made
I am a navigating seagull and astronaut of the Moon
I am the yeast of bread
That feeds hope
From the Puerto Rican man
From the awakening of my homeland
I have Puerto Rican blood
I am the son of the palm trees
From the fields and the rivers
And the song of the coqui
Of valleys and coffee plantations, of sugarcane, sugar and pineapple
Of guava and masonry
Of trembling and of mavi
If I had not been born in the land where I was born
I would regret not having been born there
