Don't criticize me
Because I live on the other side
I'm not uprooted
I came out of necessity
Many years have passed
Since I came as a wetback
My customs haven't changed
Nor my nationality

I'm like many
Other Mexicans
Who earn a living
Working under the sun
Recognized as good workers
Even the bosses
Speak to us in Spanish

When have they known
That a doctor or an engineer
Have crossed as braceros
To progress
Or that a landowner leaves land and cattle
To cross the Rio Grande
That they will never see

The other Mexico
That we have built here
On this land that has been
National territory
Is the effort
Of all our brothers
And Latin Americans
Who have known how to progress

While the rich
Go abroad
To hide their money
And travel around Europe

The peasants
Who came as wetbacks
Send almost everything
To those left behind

When have they known
That a doctor or an engineer
Have crossed as braceros
To progress

That they will never see
