Al Gaucho Gil
Los Chaqueñísimos Cardozo
The Gaucho Gil
Department of Mercedes in the province of Corrientes
There's a story buried in the Guarani soil
People say a country boy lived there
A true gaucho from Corrientes, named Antonio Gil
They chased him down for his rebellious ways
The authorities followed him through the woods
Cunning and bold, he slipped past the patrol
His relic protected him, they couldn't find him
On a tragic January 8th after San Baltazar
He started drinking in a local bar
Right there he was surrounded, and without defense that brave man
He surrendered quietly, feeling betrayed
In a twisted position, hanging from a thorn tree
The tracker, who was an Indian, carried out the sentence
Using the very knife of the gaucho who fell
That he himself had offered without begging for mercy
On a tragic January 8th in a deadly bar
They came to surround him to kill him by betrayal
The town mourns you in front of your chapel
I knelt down, because this vow-maker also cried
When the group returned to the town
The order had come declaring him innocent
That's how he unjustly fell into his fatal fate
That gaucho from Corrientes, so well-known in Corrientes
