Among the birds in the wild
And flanked by my laces
I walk down the paths

I keep following my fate
As a singer and guitar player
Breaking dawns
I’m hitched to the morning star

My horse gets all riled up
And digs in for the gallop
When at dawn I saddle him up

When I get a chance to run
Out of habit, I cross myself
My horse is itching for the reins
As soon as I’m in the stirrup

When I dance with my spurs
I’m kicking up the dust
With the pointed heel
I write my name on the ground

Every time I go to town
I throw on my hat and boots
And the way I treat the ladies
I’m always a gentleman

I like to break a colt
Get him from good stock
To come back with company
