Among the birds in the wild
And flanked by cacti
I walk the paths
Keeping the traditions alive

I keep following my fate
As a singer and guitar player
Breaking dawns
I’m hitched to the morning star

My horse gets all riled up
And digs in for the gallop
When at dawn I saddle him up
Ready to hit the hills

If I get a chance to ride
Out of habit, I cross myself
My horse wants to run

When I dance with spurs
I’m kicking up the dust
With the pointed heel
I write my name on the ground

Every time I go to town
I throw on my hat and boots
And in dealing with the ladies
I always act like a gentleman

I like to break a colt
Get him from good stock
To come back with company
