Once upon a time
A little bird born to sing
Maybe it was May, maybe February
The day it learned to pray.

But.. it was the day it was flying
That it couldn't sing
Because the men came out to hunt.

And it, it flew, flew lightly pursued
Escaping from human ferocity
Then it knew of hatred, of passions, of baseness, it cried in sadness.

It learned, it learned to value
Escaping, it lived in a hostile world
That imposed a sad life on it
Until the day came
When far from singing
Then, it was then
That it learned to pray.
