Che Fiero Costume

What a proud custom
Of a light-hearted god,
Who by force of sorrows is made to be adored!
And yet in the ardor
The treacherous god
Made me idolize a vague semblance.

What cruel fate
That a blind child
With a milk mouth is made to be esteemed!
But this tyrant
With barbarous deceit,
Entering through the eyes, made me sigh!
