Ring of Gyges
What would you do if no one could see you?
If you had the power to disappear
To do whatever I wanted to do
Would he still be who he seems to be?
Think carefully before answering
If no one could see you
What would happen?
After all, you do good because it is good
Or why does morality say it is the right thing to do?
What if I told you
That there is a ring that you put on and it disappears
What if you could make your dream possible
And when you wanted, you could just become invisible
If you could steal without leaving a trace
I would use it for my own enjoyment
Or would you do good just to gain prestige, huh?
This question troubles me
What would you do if you had the ring of Gyges?
Would it help a relative?
Or who really needs it
I would release an impostor
Would condemn an innocent man
Or would you act naturally as you always have?
And I would actually pretend that this ring never existed
I would become a vigilante and kill criminals
And would donate his organs to sick patients
I would only use it to do good things
Or would you give it as a gift to someone else?
I would take it from those who have it
To help those who don't have
He would take revenge on the enemy, he would martyr someone
Or was Machiavelli right when he said
Want to destroy a man? Then give him power
Would it be that if there were no laws or repression
Would justice still prevail?
I don't think so
If I'm wrong correct me
What would you do if you had the ring of Gyges?
And if you think the ring of Gyges is just a legend
Stop to pay attention
The ring of modernity is the cell phone in your hand
With the veil of vanity, are you faithful to the truth or not?
What do you show? What do you hide?
So answer me, brother
Your defects, where are they?
Who are you on your timeline?
Who are you when you're not online?
Man is the master of what he keeps silent and the slave of what he speaks
Freud once said: Be careful that this ring doesn't drive you crazy
The narcissus that was once seen in the lake, in the mirror
Today you see it on the screen of your device
iPhone, Android
Mythology makes an analogy with human nature
And morality still serves as a kind of prosthesis
The dilemma is the same from Aristotle to Socrates
Note
This is more than a hypothesis
And the thing is to appear, to seem
That you are who you appear to be
Who are you when no one is by your side?
With the cell phone turned off
What do you do with this power that has been given to you?
Smile! You're not being filmed
