We leave the night and welcome the dawn
We greet with joy the light that comes to us
Resurrected and resurrecting

Your hand brings fire to the shadowy earth
And the face of things rejoices in your presence
You syllable the dawn like a word
You pronounce the sea as a sentence

Man returns from sleep to his memory
He goes to his work, rises early to his pains
You entrust him with the earth and in the evening you find it
Rich in bread and bitter with sweat

And you rejoice, oh God, and you extend
In his small hands your powerful hands
And you are both in full body thus creating
Both thus watching over things

Blessed the morning that brings the great news
Of your youthful presence, in glory and power
The serene certainty with which the day proclaims
That Christ's tomb is empty
