A História Do Chico
Daniel & Samuel
The Story of Chico
My friend Chico told me while crying
That he left the Northeast, but the longing is killing him
He said goodbye to his hometown
Came to São Paulo to try his luck in the big city
Chico told me he even cried when he got here
Seeing the drizzle fall and the cold set in
Chico went hungry, slept on the street, and fought with death
When a man wants to have luck, he has to take risks
The thrush sings, the sparrow sings
I tell Chico that only Jesus is the answer
'Cause Chico is strong, he'll pass the test
And he has faith in God that he'll return rich to his Northeast
Chico told me that here in São Paulo
His head hurts from not being used to all this hustle
Chico gets upset, cries, and wants to drink
But I tell him that in Jesus, he will overcome
Every day Chico has cold meals if he wants
At five o'clock, he's up to catch the bus
He gets on the packed subway cars, all cramped
When he arrives late, he gets chewed out by the boss
The thrush sings, the sparrow sings
I tell Chico that only Jesus is the answer
'Cause Chico is strong, he'll pass the test
And he has faith in God that he'll return rich to his Northeast
Chico is living in a small room
And he has to move the bed when it rains
But he accepts it and thinks of his luck
Thinks of his people who are suffering in the drought, near death
Chico now only listens to melodies from heaven
He likes to listen to Daniel and Samuel, doesn't dance forró
He doesn't go to the bars to drink beer
Now he goes to church to worship Jesus
The thrush sings, the sparrow sings
I tell Chico that only Jesus is the answer
'Cause Chico is strong, he'll pass the test
And he has faith in God that he'll return rich to his Northeast
