The Empty Chair
My children and I were gathered around the table
We looked sadly at the empty chair
Empty, left by your deceit and infamy
The ruin of your life, theirs, and mine
Sometimes people ask me where I am
And the fact of lying to them fills me with dread
I tell you that in heaven and from there you will see us
That you loved us very much and that you were a saint
I had to lie to them so as not to make them suffer
And I had to cry blood from my soul
I couldn't tell them that you were able
To abandon your home and children for another
Sometimes people ask me if I'm in heaven
And I bite my lip as I say yes
Goodness, there are times when I feel jealous seeing that they love you much more than me
Not the older one, who already understands your infamy
And she lowers her gaze without looking at me directly
He never enters your room, nor does he call your name
And he likes to isolate himself, far, far away from people
I see the youngest running around the house
With her childlike smile and innocent joy
Then he stops, kisses you, and hugs you
Even though he only caresses the empty chair
I had to lie to them so as not to make them suffer
And I had to cry blood from my soul
I couldn't tell them that you were able
To abandon your home and children for another
