Qué voy a hacer yo?

I was just a poor kid
some loser from the neighborhood
just a worker, a nobody, a kid, a failure
one of those who doesn’t give a damn
about what the news says
official bulletins
I only knew my block.
What am I gonna do?
What can I do?
Who do I need to defend myself from if I don’t know any enemies?
If the sound of gunfire already fills me with dread
What am I gonna do?
What can I do?

This messed-up present
turned into a bright future
I’m a young soldier
with stripes on my sleeves
And this is what I was missing
what I always longed for
was for someone to give me orders
and tell me to do the dirty work.
Something I also enjoy
is a slice of cake now and then
so I don’t forget where I come from
and know who’s in charge.

The most beautiful thing of all is being useful to the country
in this way that I do it
with two bullets in my chest.
