Mi Soldado
Arelys Henao
My Soldier
I cradled him in my womb like a mother
With my hands I taught him to walk
I taught him every way out, respect for life
But others train me to kill
He doesn't play soldiers in my house anymore
Now he lives on a military base
He is a combat man, a rescue expert
And who knows if I would kiss him again
How many wars have been fought
How many fallen heroes
For men, power and ambition
How many men are left
With a tattooed heart
Mutilated by bombs and cannon
Don't cry, mother told me
You're going to make me cry
My homeland has been attacked
And for her I will fight
I gave him a tight hug
I said goodbye to my soldier
And I hid to cry
I didn't want to stain his military uniform with tears
I cradled him in my womb like a mother
With my hands I taught him to walk
I taught him every way out, respect for life
But others train me to kill
Today I sing to the soldiers of my land
Those who hold the flag with honor
There goes what I love most, my quarrelsome little boy
Defending his homeland with courage
How many wars have been fought
How many fallen heroes
For men, power and ambition
How many men are left
With a tattooed heart
Mutilated by bombs and cannon
