The ship sank in the night that was ending,
And for the castaways, a new day is dawning.
They are there, both of them, on a floating raft,
Lost in the ocean!
Look, on the horizon, Nita, that smoke!
It's a steamer, it's coming, and you are saved!
Alas, Nita died upon reaching the deck,
And he alone still breathed.
And now, over there, back home,
On the Breton heath, a madman sings in the night:

Mine is up there in the skies,
