Chacarera del 55

Alfredo Zitarrosa Alfredo Zitarrosa

Chacarera del 55

(Chacarera)

From 55 is the chacarera,
that burning dreams steals the entire night from us. (1)

For the singers, for the coqueros, (2)
for the burners that sprout on counters.

It was born for the cry of the guitar players,
that veins of wine bloom in the gargueros. (3)

From inside the night comes blind Pancho,
matured house that springs from a couplet. (4)

Let me name the wine that comes slowly, (5)
Let me name the man who is happy,
let all the pain come out from within.

Dreamer without sorrow, herdsman of oblivion,
wine from 'ta and five: ancient intoxicant. (6)

They are Chacho Díaz and the Maldonado,
cool burners of the night in love. (7)

Sing to me drunk, steal me from your dreams,
calm me down the wine, before I find an owner. (8)

I'm already alone, distressing stars,
veiling the simple machete of those who burn. (9)

Let me name the wine that comes slowly, (5)
Let me name the man who is happy,
let all the pain come out from within.
