O Ipê E O Prisioneiro ( Ipê Florido )
Abel e Caim
The Ipe and the Prisoner (Blooming Ipe)
Many years ago, I was locked up in this cold cell
From the second floor of the prison, I could see
When a gardener planted an ipe tree, and as the days went by
It grew and came to life while I suffered
My blooming ipe
Next to my cell
Now it reaches the height
Of my window
Just one difference
Between us now
In here the nights
No longer have dawn
How much brightness you have out there
I see on your trunk a parasitic vine hugging you tight
While it hugs you, it sucks your sap, leading you to death
That’s how it was with me, it embraced me then betrayed me
So I killed it, and now I only have your company
My blooming ipe
Next to my cell
Now it reaches the height
Of my window
Just one difference
Between us now
In here the nights
No longer have dawn
How much brightness you have out there
