Guiding Lights
Ghost
Navigating the Path of Uncertainty
Ghost's song 'Guiding Lights' is an epic ballad that explores the search for the soul and the uncertain journey that many of us face throughout our lives. The lyrics reflect on the idea of being on a path that seems to have no destination, symbolizing the uncertainty and chaos that often accompany the search for meaning and purpose. The metaphor of 'guiding lights' suggests that, even amid darkness and uncertainty, there are signs or directions that lead us, although the final destination remains obscure.
The song was originally written for the Netflix series 'Arcane', from the League of Legends universe, especially for the scene in which a very important character allegedly dies. Although it wasn't chosen for the series, Tobias Forge, the band's leader, believed that the song fit perfectly on the 'Skeletá' album. This adds a layer of depth to the song, as the idea of death and rebirth, or the transition from one state to another, is a recurring theme in the band's work.
Musically, 'Guiding Lights' stands out as an introspective ballad, with a melody that evokes feelings of melancholy and reflection. The presence of a divine figure or 'god' in the lyrics suggests a spiritual or philosophical quest, where the lyrical self questions the road traveled and the choices made. The repetition of the phrase 'the road that leads to nowhere is long' reinforces the idea that the journey is endless and full of challenges, but also opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
